How I Became The Hill Country Hostess

For as long as I can remember, I've been a city girl. Growing up in a good-sized town, I couldn't wait to grow up and move to a big city. And that's exactly what I did. While I loved city life in Washington, DC, I missed my home state of Texas. So, I moved to Austin in 2005 and haven't looked back since.

Once in Austin, I began to learn about and love the geographic area just beyond the city limits that Texans refer to as The Hill Country. My husband loves it even more. We didn't talk about it much, but there was always an idea that we might retire in the area once we were free of a daily commute to downtown Austin.

By 2021 we were still too young for retirement, but like many Americans, found ourselves working remotely on a permanent basis. With this new freedom, we started looking for ways to trade our North Austin home for something closer to the Hill Country lifestyle.

It took some time to find the right thing, but we committed to building a home in La Ventana in Driftwood at the beginning of 2021 and haven't looked back. Fingers crossed, we'll be in our new place before the start of 2023.

In the meantime, we continue to explore the Hill Country and all it has to offer as we think about what we want our new lives to look like. This blog is documentation of that journey and eventually a resource for our friends and family as they come to visit. We want our home to be a jumping-off point for our guests as they embark on their own Hill Country exploration and use this blog as a resource in their planning.

Join me in my adventures as this city girl becomes The Hill Country Hostess.
