How I Became The Hill Country Hostess

For as long as I can remember, I've been a city girl. Growing up in a good-sized town, I couldn't wait to grow up and move to a big city. And that's exactly what I did. While I loved city life in Washington, DC, I missed my home state of Texas. So, I moved to Austin in 2005 and haven't looked back since. Once in Austin, I began to learn about and love the geographic area just beyond the city limits that Texans refer to as The Hill Country. My husband loves it even more. We didn't talk about it much, but there was always an idea that we might retire in the area once we were free of a daily commute to downtown Austin. By 2021 we were still too young for retirement, but like many Americans, found ourselves working remotely on a permanent basis. With this new freedom, we started looking for ways to trade our North Austin home for something closer to the Hill Country lifestyle.
